Villa Vision – Year 5/6 – Wednesday 31st March / Thursday 1st April 2021

Many thanks to those parents and carers who have already brought back their consent form for next week’s Villa Vision sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

If you have misplaced the original consent form, you can either download and print it from the above link, or I’ll ensure that both Ms McGrath and myself have copies tomorrow morning. They need to be returned by Tuesday morning at the very latest.

There is an information booklet above if you would like to find out more. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to get their eye health screened with full checks (if applicable) taking place on the 26th April 2021 on the school site.

Holi Celebration – Monday 29/3/21

Dear parents,

As you are likely aware, Year 6 have been studying India this half term, using Madhur Jaffrey’s Seasons of Splendour (Tales of India) to guide our learning.

Linked to this, we have looked at many Hindu festivals, and planned to mark Holi on Monday.
I had asked the children to come to school dressed in bright colours as this festival is known as the Festival of Colours and often Hindus throw paint and powders all over each other – it is a very colourful festival.

Instead, to ensure we mark this festival appropriately, I would like the children to come in their uniform, bringing their bright things with them. We will then change into the colours after we have completed our morning activity involving paint (but not thrown onto clothes!)

Thank you.
Miss Edwards

Staffing arrangements

Just to let you know that, due to staffing alterations, a lady called Ms Keenan will be covering in year 6 on Friday afternoons for the remainder of this term. She will deliver music and topic session as usual, following planning as set by Mrs Pickering.

Comic Relief 2021

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back this week as part of our wider opening of the school. May I take this opportunity to thank you for your commitment and support during the on-going pandemic, it is always greatly appreciated by us all at Woodthorpe.
Comic Relief 2021 (Red Nose Day) is fast approaching and we would like to incorporate the use of the skipping ropes that were recently distributed to the children. We are planning to host a ‘skipathon’ on Friday 19th March 2021 where as a school we will challenge our children (and staff) to continually skip between 09:00 and 15:00. Each class will have an allocated time where children will skip for 1-2 minutes (rotation) depending on Key Stage.
I have attached a sponsor form should you wish your child to help raise funds for Comic Relief. (100% of all funds raised will be going to this charity)
Please encourage your children to practise over the coming days in preparation for the event itself. ‘Dan the Skipping Man’ YouTube videos are a great place to start!
Look out for more details on class blog sites and through our Twitter account (@woodthorpeji) over the next few days.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Kind regards,
Mr M Trevor
